Everyone who bashes on the E36 M3/S50/S52 has either never driven one, can't afford one, or is just doing it to follow the pack mentality.

Sure, it's underpowered compared to the Euro variant. But the runt of the ///M litter? Having been a passenger in an E30 M3 hundreds of times (my dad owned one) and being the current driver of an E36 M3, I can confirm the E36 corners and stops just as well as (if not better than) the E30, accelerates far better and in a much more thrilling fashion, and is far more comfortable and useable in everyday life. Comparing it to what is often considered the "holy grail" of homologation cars, the E36 M3 goes from looking like a mistake to the best possible result of depreciation. Anyone can have one, and everyone can enjoy one.

I haven't driven many BMWs, but I can't imagine any of them being a better value for the money. I get to drive in comfort, have plenty of power when I need it, and after almost four years I still get excited when I walk up to it because I like the way it looks. Plus, it makes me look like less of a douchebag to the general public, and I like that. Also, it's pretty easy to work on.
